Brex vs Divvy pricing starts level: Brex Essentials and BILL Spend and Expense, the product formerly called Divvy, both cost $0 per user per month. The gap opens above the free tier. Brex Premium is $12 per user per month, while BILL sells no paid Spend and Expense tier but charges $49 to $89 per user per month for its separate AP plans. Brex also states an FX markup of up to 3% on card purchases that need currency conversion. Every figure here was read on brex.com and bill.com on September 16, 2026.
Two ownership facts shape the comparison. Brex is now a Capital One company: its pricing page describes Brex LLC as a wholly owned subsidiary, and the Capital One acquisition of Brex closed on April 7, 2026. Divvy belongs to BILL, which renamed the software BILL Spend and Expense and kept the name only on the card, the BILL Divvy Card. So a Brex vs Divvy decision in 2026 is really a choice between a bank-owned card platform and a card that comes with the BILL payables system.

Is Brex cheaper than Divvy?
For expense management alone, no: both cost $0 until you need Brex Premium, and Divvy has no paid tier to grow into. Brex becomes the cheaper choice once you pay vendors, because Brex bill pay comes with every plan and payments from a Brex business account carry no Brex transaction fee, while BILL charges for its AP plans and for each payment.
Here is how that plays out for a US company with 25 card users, three people in accounts payable and 60 vendor payments a month by ACH.
| Monthly cost at 25 users, 3 AP users, 60 ACH payments | Brex Essentials | Brex Premium | BILL Spend and Expense plus AP Essentials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card and expense software | $0 | $300 | $0 |
| AP software | $0 | $0 | $147 |
| ACH payment fees | $0 from a Brex business account | $0 from a Brex business account | $35.40 |
| Total per month | $0 | $300 | $182.40 |
| Total per year | $0 | $3,600 | $2,188.80 |
Two things move that result. If the company does not pay vendors through BILL at all, the BILL column falls to $0 and the comparison is even. And if the 25 users need what Premium adds, such as multiple customizable expense policies or advanced accounting integrations, Brex costs $3,600 a year while Divvy stays at $0 for its expense features. That is the honest summary: Divvy is cheaper on expense software, Brex is cheaper on payables.
How much does Brex cost per user?
Brex publishes three plans. Essentials is $0 per user per month and includes the card, accounting integrations, bill pay, reimbursements, real-time reporting, API access and free travel booking. Premium is $12 per user per month and adds multiple customizable expense policies, multi-entity support in the US and abroad, and custom accounting integrations. Enterprise is priced by sales and adds unlimited entities and a named account manager.
Brex's support article on the cost of its services adds two details the pricing page does not show. Software can be billed in arrears on net 30 terms or upfront, and overages are priced by the terms of your contract. Ask for both in writing before signing, because a per-user price only tells you half the bill if the overage rule is loose. For the full plan breakdown, see our Brex pricing page.
Is Divvy still free?
Yes. BILL lists Spend and Expense at $0 per user per month, and its pricing FAQ says the plan includes corporate cards, budgets, expense tracking and access to credit lines from $1,000 to $5M, subject to approval. BILL's own comparison article describes all Spend and Expense features as included, with no paid tier to unlock.
The costs start where the free plan stops. Paying vendors through BILL needs one of the AP and AR plans: Essentials at $49, Team at $65 or Corporate at $89 per user per month, with Enterprise quoted. Each payment then carries a fee: $0.59 for ACH, $1.99 for a mailed check, $19.99 for an international USD wire, $11.99 for same-day ACH and $24.99 for an overnight check. Card payments to vendors cost the payer 2.9%, while virtual card payments are free.
Does Brex charge foreign transaction fees?
Brex states that for international card transactions it applies an FX rate markup of up to 3% when a purchase needs to be converted into another currency, using daily rates based on Mastercard wholesale rates. A team spending the equivalent of $10,000 a month in euros could therefore pay up to $300 a month in markup. BILL says foreign currency and cross-border fees may apply to the Divvy Card under the cardholder agreement, without a figure on its pricing page.
If your business buys from overseas suppliers, read both agreements and ask each vendor for the exact rate. Up to 3% on foreign spend can outweigh every per-user fee in this article.
Which card has better rewards, Brex or Divvy?
They are built differently, so compare them on your own spend. BILL runs a points program where the multiplier rises with how often you pay the balance, up to 7x, and points can be redeemed for cash back, statement credit or gift cards. BILL's own comparison article lists two limits: a 12-month holding period before rewards can be redeemed, and category multipliers capped at $5,000 of spend per month per category. Brex runs its own rewards program. Neither publishes a single flat rate that fits every company, so model your top three spend categories before counting on points.
What do you need to qualify for Brex or Divvy?
Both underwrite the business, not a person, and both set the limit from your financials. BILL says you can apply for the Divvy Card online with no impact to your credit and offers fixed, variable and pre-funded lines, the last of which lets a company with thin credit history start by funding the card up front. Brex sets limits at underwriting and does not publish a fixed threshold on its pricing page. Either way, expect to share recent bank activity and financial statements. If your books are current but you have no clean balance sheet to hand over, you can turn your bookkeeping export into a balance sheet and income statement before you apply.
Brex vs Divvy for small business: which should you choose?
Choose BILL Spend and Expense if you want free expense software with budgets, you are on QuickBooks, Sage or NetSuite, and you either already pay vendors through BILL or do not need bill pay. Choose Brex if you want bill pay without a separate subscription, you send a lot of vendor payments, or you want the backing of a large bank. If you are also looking at Ramp, our Ramp vs Brex comparison and our list of Brex competitors cover the rest of the field.
What if you do not want to switch cards at all?
This is the question neither pricing page answers. Brex and Divvy are free because your company's card spend moves onto their card, and the interchange pays for the software. For many US companies that is a fine trade. For others it is not: a bank credit line the business relies on, a card program with rewards finance wants to keep, or cards spread across departments nobody wants to reissue.
Expenditure is built for that case. It runs on the Visa and Mastercard cards and bank accounts you already have. You snap, forward or drop a receipt, and it reads the vendor, amount, tax and line items, codes the charge to the right GL account, checks it against your expense policy and syncs a clean record into QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite. It also flags duplicate subscriptions, unused seats and vendors that raised their prices. Expenditure costs $20, $35 or $55 per seat per month billed yearly. That is more than $0, and the difference buys you coding and waste detection on every card you already carry, with nothing to reissue. You can try it on a receipt with the tool at the top of this page.
Expenditure never moves or holds your money, is bank-grade secure with role-based access, and never sells or trains on your financial data. This article compares published pricing and is not financial, tax or accounting advice.
