Dext pricing: what Dext Prepare costs per month, and the Dext alternative that prices by person instead of by document

Dext pricing starts at $25.21 per month for the business plan, or $302.50 billed annually, and that buys 5 users and 250 documents a month. Both numbers sit on sliders, so the price you actually pay depends on how many documents your team pushes through rather than on which plan you picked. Those figures were read on Dext's own US business pricing page on September 5, 2026. If you are here because the document allowance keeps forcing the slider to the right, the Dext alternative below prices by person and never meters your receipts.

The thing to understand about Dext pricing is that it is a document meter wearing the clothes of a subscription. The plan includes 250 documents a month, and every extra user you add brings 50 more documents, 5 sheets of bank statement extraction, 5 documents with line item extraction and 1 supplier statement extraction along with them. Annual billing saves 20 percent and is charged upfront for the year. Extra storage starts at $4 a month. Supplier statement reconciliation is also sold pay as you go at $0.50 per document. More than 5 business entities moves you to custom pricing.

For accounting practices Dext prices per client per month with a 10 client minimum, and here the page gets genuinely awkward: the Essentials and Advanced plans are both listed as "From" with no dollar figure attached, while the add-ons that bolt onto them publish exact prices. AI Assist is $7 per client. Data Health and Insights is $7.50 per client per month. Commerce Lite is $7.50 per client per month. So a firm can price the extras to the cent and cannot price the thing the extras attach to. That is worth knowing before you build a client-billing model on it.

Be careful with the Dext prices you find in comparison articles. Several of them quote roughly $31.50 a month for the 5 user minimum, which does not match the $25.21 Dext itself prints. We do not know which figure is stale, and neither do they, which is exactly why every number on this page is dated and sourced to a page Dext publishes.

Expenditure is the alternative for teams whose problem is the meter rather than the software. We charge per person, we do not count your documents, and the job we do is different in kind: Dext captures the document and hands it to your ledger, while we read the receipt, decide which GL account it really belongs to, check it against your expense policy, match it to the card transaction and only then sync a clean coded record into QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite. We also watch spend across cards, vendors and subscriptions in real time and flag duplicate tools and price creep. We run on the cards and banks you already have, we never move or hold your money, and this is software and insight rather than accounting advice.

Where Dext is still the better buy, and we would rather say so: multi-client practice workflows with a client portal and chasing built in, deep two-way sync with Sage as well as QuickBooks and Xero, supplier statement reconciliation as a first-class feature, and bank statement extraction sold by the sheet. If those are the jobs, Dext is built for them and we are not.

Line item What Dext states What it meters Where your bill actually moves
Dext business plan $25.21 per month, or $302.50 billed annually 5 users and 250 documents a month, both on sliders Documents first. The plan is a meter, so a busy month moves the slider rather than the tier
What each extra Dext user adds Priced by the slider, not a flat seat rate 50 documents, 5 sheets of bank statement extraction, 5 line item documents, 1 supplier statement Adding a person also raises the document ceiling, so headcount and volume are tangled together
Dext annual billing 20 percent saving, billed upfront for the year Same allowances Cash out the door on day one in exchange for the discount
Dext extras Storage from $4 a month. Supplier statement reconciliation $0.50 per document pay as you go Per document and per month Small lines that only appear once you are past the included allowance
Dext for accounting practices Essentials and Advanced both published as "From" with no dollar figure. 10 client minimum Per client, per month You cannot model a practice plan from the public page. The base rate has to be quoted
Dext practice add-ons AI Assist $7 per client. Data Health and Insights $7.50 per client per month. Commerce Lite $7.50 per client per month Per client, per month The add-ons publish exact prices while the plans they attach to do not
More than 5 business entities Custom pricing Entities A quote conversation, not a self serve signup
Expenditure, for contrast $12, $24 or $39 per user per month, published People, and nothing else Headcount only. Receipt and document volume never changes the bill

The pattern worth noticing: Dext meters documents, and every lever that raises your document ceiling also raises your price. If your receipt volume is spiky, a document meter is the wrong shape of contract, whoever you buy it from.

Why it works

What to check before you renew Dext

A price that does not move with your receipt volume

We charge $12, $24 or $39 per user per month and we do not count documents. A heavy month costs the same as a quiet one, so finance can forecast the line instead of watching a meter.

Coding, not just capture

Capture is the easy half. We decide which GL account the charge really belongs to, check it against your expense policy, match it to the card transaction, then sync a clean record to QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite.

We say where Dext wins

If you run a book of clients and need client chasing, supplier statement reconciliation and Sage sync, Dext is built for that and we are not. We are built for one company that wants its own spend coded correctly.

What it handles

A receipt in, a categorized line out, the waste flagged

Expenditure reads each receipt, categorizes it, checks it against your policy and rolls it into real-time spend, then surfaces the duplicate subscriptions and savings you are leaking.

  • Prices per person, never per document or per page
  • Codes every receipt to the right GL account automatically
  • Checks each expense against your policy as it lands
  • Flags duplicate subscriptions, unused tools and price creep
  • Syncs to QuickBooks, Xero and NetSuite on your existing cards

Why Expenditure

Receipts read, spend categorized, waste flagged

Not manual coding, not a stale spreadsheet. Expenditure reads each receipt, checks your policy, shows real-time spend, and flags the savings, all on the cards and banks you already have.

Read and categorized

Snap, forward or drop a receipt. The AI reads the vendor, amount, tax and line items, categorizes it and matches the card, in seconds.

Waste flagged

Duplicate and overlapping subscriptions, unused tools, price creep and out-of-policy spend, surfaced in real time with the potential saving.

Secure and in your control

Bank-grade security, we never move or hold your money, and we never train on your data. Insights, not advice, your finance team decides.

Good questions

Questions about dext pricing

Dext costs $25.21 per month for the business plan, which includes 5 users and 250 documents a month, or $302.50 if you pay annually. Both the user count and the document allowance sit on sliders, so that figure is a starting point rather than a fixed price. Read on Dext's US business pricing page on September 5, 2026.
The business plan includes 5 users and 250 documents per month, plus 10 sheets of bank statement extraction, 5 documents with line item extraction and 5 supplier statement extractions. Each additional user you add brings 50 more documents, 5 more bank statement sheets, 5 more line item documents and 1 more supplier statement with them.
For businesses, yes: dext.com/us/business/pricing prints $25.21 per month and $302.50 annually. For accounting practices, only partly. The Essentials and Advanced practice plans are both shown as "From" with no dollar amount, while the add-ons that attach to them do publish exact per client rates.
Dext does not publish a base practice rate. Practice pricing is per client per month with a 10 client minimum, and the plan figures are shown as "From" with no number. What Dext does publish is the add-on pricing: AI Assist at $7 per client, Data Health and Insights at $7.50 per client per month and Commerce Lite at $7.50 per client per month.
It depends on whether you need a document meter or a coding engine. If you are an accounting practice that wants client chasing, supplier statement reconciliation and two-way sync with Sage, Xero and QuickBooks, Dext is built for exactly that and the price is reasonable. If you are one company that mostly needs receipts read and coded correctly, you are paying for a document pipeline you do not use.
It depends on what is bothering you about Dext. If the document allowance is the problem, pick something metered by people rather than documents, which is how Expenditure prices. If the price is the problem, SparkReceipt publishes $16.65 a month for 3 users with unlimited documents. If you only need capture and already pay for QuickBooks Online, its built-in Receipt Capture is included at no extra charge.
Yes, several, and the honest answer is that cheaper depends on your shape. SparkReceipt publishes $16.65 per month list or $99.99 annually for 3 users with unlimited documents. Zoho Expense Standard is $4 per user monthly or $3 annually but caps autoscans at 200 per user per month. QuickBooks Online includes receipt capture on every plan you already pay for.
QuickBooks Online includes receipt capture on every plan at no extra charge, so if you already pay for QuickBooks the marginal cost of capturing a receipt is zero. Dext charges $25.21 a month on top of that. What the money buys is the practice workflow, supplier statement reconciliation and line item extraction, not the basic act of reading a receipt.
Both, and that is the part people misread. The plan is sold with a user count and a document count together, and each additional user raises the document allowance by 50. So you cannot add a person without also buying volume, and you cannot buy volume without moving a slider that changes your monthly price.
No. Dext publishes no permanently free tier on its US business pricing page. The path is a paid plan built from the sliders, with annual billing offered at a 20 percent discount charged upfront for the year.
The business plan includes 10 sheets of bank statement extraction, and each additional user adds 5 more sheets. Beyond that Dext meters it. Supplier statement reconciliation is separately available pay as you go at $0.50 per document. If bank statements rather than receipts are the real job, that is a different product category worth pricing on its own.
Yes. Users and documents are both sliders on the same plan, so adding a user moves the price and also raises your document ceiling by 50. Model your team size and your monthly document volume together, because in Dext they are not separate decisions.
Dext does not publish a per seat rate you can multiply, because the price comes from the slider rather than a table. The published starting point is $25.21 a month at 5 users and 250 documents, and 10 users would carry roughly 500 documents with them. Build it in Dext's own plan builder and get the figure in writing before you commit.
Because they are quoting stale or regional figures. Several currently claim roughly $31.50 a month for the 5 user minimum, which does not match the $25.21 Dext prints on its own US business pricing page as of September 5, 2026. When a price matters to your decision, read it on the vendor's page and note the date, as we have done here.
Plan the export before you cancel rather than after. Pull your processed documents and the coding history out while the account is still active, because access to archived documents is tied to the subscription. Whatever you move to, run both in parallel for one full month so you can compare the coding on the same receipts.
No, and we would rather be straight about it. Dext is stronger on multi-client practice workflows, client chasing, supplier statement reconciliation and Sage sync. We are built for one company rather than a book of clients, and our wedge is what happens after capture: coding to the right GL account, policy checks, card matching and flagging duplicate subscriptions and price creep.
